First, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Debra Chandler and I am excited to be the new principal of Woodlake Elementary. It has been my pleasure to serve the Twin Rivers School District (and former district Grant Unified) for the past 24 years. In those years I have served as a science, PE, AVID and corrective reading teacher, as well as, learning coach, High School Athletic Director, Jr. High Vice Principal and Elementary Principal. Over the past few months, I have talked with many members of the Woodlake school community and am so excited about our journey forward. Woodlake School is full of dedicated staff, involved parents, supportive community and best of all enthusiastic and bright students.
I am sure this unusual summer brought on new challenges and hope that there was still time for rest and relaxation.
Last week, our Superintendent, Dr. Martinez and the Superintendent of the Sacramento County Office of Education announced that all Sacramento school districts would open the school year with 100% Distance Learning. This decision was based on the latest public health information showing increasingly high coronavirus infection rates in our county. Obviously, the health and safety of students, staff, and families is the top priority. Twin Rivers will continue developing plans to make distance learning and the eventual return to school as safe as possible and as educationally effective as possible. We will continue to monitor the health and safety conditions in our community to make decisions about our 2020-2021 program in the months ahead. I’ll keep you as informed as possible about how all of this specifically affects our Woodlake School Community. Beginning with this message, I will send you a weekly message with any updates and announcements through the rest of the summer and into the fall. You can find the messages on the school website from me. Also, please keep informed through the Twin Rivers District Website at twinriversusd.org/coronavirus where you will find updated information from our Superintendent.
Our first day of school is still Tuesday, August 18 via online instruction! During the next few weeks you can expect to receive information about how to get ready. You will get this information from the district office, and you will get this information from our school website. Information about your child’s new teacher, how/when to pick up materials, using the new parent portal for communication, chrome-book distribution/repair and more will be distributed through the website.
Again, I hope you’re well and I look forward to meeting you in person when it is safe to do so. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out via email. I, along with the Woodlake staff, are here to help in any way possible. Never hesitate to reach me via email at email@example.com or through district phone once we are back on site. Please stay safe, healthy and happy!
